The Subtle Art of Non Giving a Fuck: A Counterintuitive Approach to Living a Good Life (commencement published in 2016) is the second book by blogger and author Marker Manson.[1] In it, Manson argues that life's struggles requite it pregnant, and that the mindless positivity of typical self-assist books is neither applied nor helpful. It was a New York Times and Globe and Mail bestseller.

The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck was published under the banner of HarperOne, a division of HarperCollins Publishers, and was released on September 13, 2016.[2]
Every bit of May 2019, over 8 million copies of the volume had been sold.[three]

The book is a reaction to the cocky-help manufacture and what Manson saw equally a culture of mindless positivity that is non practical or helpful for nearly people.[four] Manson uses many of his own personal experiences to illustrate how life's struggles frequently give it more pregnant, which, he argues, is a better approach than constantly trying to be happy.[5] Manson's approach and writing manner have been categorized past some as contrarian to the general self-aid industry, using blunt honesty and profanity to illustrate his ideas.[5] [6]
The book has nine chapters. The beginning chapter, Don't Try, is named after the philosophy of Charles Bukowski, who served equally a major inspiration for the whole book.
The chapters accept the following titles:
i. Don't Endeavor.
2. Happiness is a problem.
3. You lot are not special.
4. The value of suffering.
5. You are always choosing.
6. Y'all are wrong about everything (But so am I).
7. Failure is the fashion forward.
8. The importance of saying no.

The Subtle Fine art of Not Giving a Fuck is a book about finding pregnant in of import things in life and merely having those values that an individual tin control. Whatever value (such as popularity) that is not nether a person's command, is a bad value to have and a person should strive to replace it with something more controllable such as punctuality, honesty, or kindness. Manson further advises avoiding claiming certainty nigh the knowledge that is out of ane's grasp and not worry about leaving a legacy for the posterity. Instead of worrying about building a body of work as a legacy, one should seek to create joy in the moment for one'southward self and those around.[1]

The Subtle Art of Non Giving a Fuck first appeared on the New York Times Bestseller List at #6 for the category of How-to and Miscellaneous for the week of October 2, 2016.[viii] It reached #1 for the first fourth dimension on July sixteen, 2017.[9] As of the end of May 2020, the volume has spent 179 weeks on the New York Times Bestseller list.[10]
The book also appeared on the Washington Postal service Bestseller List at #9 in the Non-fiction/General category for the calendar week of September 25, 2016,[11] and on the Toronto Star List at #1 in the Self-Improvement category on September 23, 2016.[12] In 2017, it was the best-selling nonfiction volume from Barnes & Noble,[13] the #4 all-time-selling book on all of Amazon.com,[14] and the #9 acknowledged volume in Canada.[15]
Kirkus Reviews said that the book was "[a] skillful yardstick by which self-improvement books should be measured."[sixteen]
The book was noted as a prominent instance of an industry wide tendency of swear words in book titles during the 2010s.[17] [xviii]
Critics accept been quick to note that the apparent lack of sophistication in linguistic communication and style of the book is a clever disguise for more serious value-related content of the book.[19]
