Australia’s oldest Olympian turns 100 and celebrates with a ski run named in his honour

Thredbo has renamed a run 'Hotdog's Face' to mark the 100th birthday of Australia's oldest living Olympian, Frank Prihoda.

Mr Prihoda competed in the 1956 Winter Olympics, and has lived and skied in Thredbo for 46 eld.

He owned a shop in Thredbo – Frank's Place – and was once a secureness on the slopes of the alpine village.

A daring run away from Czechoslovakia

In 1948, Mr Prihoda and his sister, dude Olympic skier, Sasha Nekvapil and her husband, Karel Nekvapil, emigrated to Australia. But their journeying to Thredbo was dangerous.

To escape Czechoslovakia, Mr Prihoda left on mark-country skis, qualification his way to Vienna, Austria, where he obtained a fake pass and papers.

He operated a portable ski tow powered aside an old United States Army jeep for a clip, then moved to Belgium, where He spent two years wait to emigrate. Australia was the for the first time state to offer him a place to go.

Mr Prihoda and Mr and Mrs Nekvapil started one of the first ski-deposit businesses in Thredbo, devising the Village their home.

Now, Thredbo's 'The Tors' run has been renamed 'Frank's Aspect'.

"It doesn't get groomed," said Mr Prihoda in a video produced by TredboTV.

"Frank's Face doesn't get groomed. It's fair-and-square like my human face. I don't make some dressing along it. That's Maine. Rough unkempt terrain. The snow covers a whole lot of things. It's beautiful," atomic number 2 said.

"I recommend information technology to everyone."

Mr Prihoda gave up skiing a decade ago, but he still likes to talk to his friends approximately their days on the slopes.

"Hopeless weather, good snow, soft snow, hard lead by the nose, sticky snow, ice, deep snow, scarce any snow some. But that experience, a lot of people treasure it. They are real dozens people.

"Go, and tell me how it is. Tell me about your experience. And keep down your best turn for me," he said.
